GIDDALUR: In a shocking incident, an Intermediate student attacked his college principal with a blade for debarring him after being caught in the examinations. The incident took place at Giddalur of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday night. The principal, who was seriously injured in the attack, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

According to Giddalur Inspector Deva Prabhakar, Gontla Ganesh, a resident of Chinna Masad Street in Giddalur, appeared for the Intermediate Board examinations last year at Sahithi Junior College in the town. However, he was debarred after being caught for copying in the examination. Since then, Ganesh has developed a grudge against college principal M Konda Reddy and has been waiting for an opportune moment to attack him.

On Thursday night, Ganesh attacked Konda Reddy at Gandhi circle while the latter was on his way home after work. Ganesh attempted to cut the throat of Konda Reddy with the blade. The principal sustained a deep cut injury on his hand when he tried to defend himself during the attack.

When the locals tried to stop Ganesh from attacking the principal, he warned that he had an axe at his house and would attack again if they tried to prevent him. However, the locals pacified Ganesh and restrained him from attacking the principal further. Later, Ganesh fled the spot, the Inspector said.

Locals immediately rushed Konda Reddy to Giddalur Government Hospital. Upon receiving the information about the incident, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot. Ganesh was later taken into custody before he was questioned. A case was registered against him and further investigations are underway, sub-inspector V Mahesh said.
