HYDERABAD: Four Sudanese women passengers were caught at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Wednesday and gold paste worth close to Rs 2 crore were recovered from them. One of the accused was arrested for smuggling the gold into the country.

The Air Intelligence Unit of Hyderabad Customs at the RGI Airport intercepted the four foreign based on passenger profiling. The Sudanese women, who were caught smuggling the gold paste, arrived at the Hyderabad airport by a flight from Dubai (EK-524) at 2:55 am on Wednesday. During thorough screening of the passengers, the Customs authorities found the gold paste in capsule form that was concealed inside their rectum.

The net weight of the gold paste seized on this occasion is 3,175 gms and was valued at Rs 1.943 crores. One passenger was formally arrested for the gold smuggling even as further investigation was in progress.
