Hyderabad man sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting his 10-year-old daughter

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metropolitan Sessions Judge Nampally Hyderabad T Anitha on Thursday convicted Abdul Hafeez of sexually assaulting his 10-year-old daughter, inflicting a 20-year term and a Rs.5,000 fine.

The petitioner married Abdul Hafeez in 2008 and had six children. However Mohd Abdul Hafeez was addicted to alcohol and quit working. The petitioner used to beg to make ends meet while her husband stayed at home and cared for the children.

On November 30, 2021, the petitioner's elder sister witnessed Abdul Hafeez sexually molesting her 10-year-old daughter, who cried out loudly after being locked inside their house. Her aunt promptly rescued her and informed the same to the victim's mother.

The victim's mother reported the incident to Habeeb Nagar police station, who then sent her to Bharosa Center for her statement to be recorded. The Bharosa Centre facilitated the victim's family with counseling, medical, legal, and financial assistance, along with home visits by senior officers.

A case under Cr. No. 265/2021, U/sec. 7 r/w. 8 of POCSO Act 2012 was filed against the accused in Habeeb Nagar police station after investigation.

The trial of POCSO Act cases in Hyderabad was successfully concluded with a conviction, thanks to the efforts of various officers, including the Investigating Officer Habeeb Nagar Sub-inspector.

The court awarded a compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 to the victim for immediate needs and further education through (District Legal Service Authorities) DLSA.
