HYDERABAD: The KPHB police on Tuesday arrested a person on charges of cheating people by claiming to provide double-bedroom houses to the poor. Kukatpally Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chandrasekhar gave details of the case at a press conference. KPHB Inspector Kishan Kumar was also present.

According to the ACP, Bommidam Kumar Babu alias Ravi Verma of Andhra Pradesh, working in the city as a private employee, has been defrauding innocent people under the pretext of providing double-bedroom houses.

The accused approached Mortha Namashivaya, a goldsmith in KPHB Colony LIG, for his offence. Using the photo of a woman, Babu bluffed to him that she was granted a double-bedroom house. He tricked Namashivaya into believing that a house would be provided to the latter if he too paid some money.

Namashivaya, and a few others, paid some money in installments. On July 21, the victims got suspicious after they were asked to pay Rs.20,000 more. When the victims accosted the acccused and insisted on the allotment papers, he gave them a slip and vanished.

Based on a complaint from the victims, the KPHB police registered a case and arrested the accused. The police said that since 2017, Babu has been cheating many innocent people and there are already cases registered against him in Miyapur, Madhapur, Sanatnagar, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and other police stations. The KPHB police said that a couple of mobile phones and a car were seized from the accused.
