Man arrested in Mancherial district for cheating woman of Rs 9.32 lakhs

NASPUR: Sleuths of Rachakonda cybercrime on Monday arrested one person for allegedly befriending a woman through a matrimony site and cheating her of Rs 9.32 lakhs after promising to marry her. The accused Karla Karthik was apprehended in Naspur mandal in Mancherial district.

The victim, a widow, enrolled herself on a reputed matrimonial site in June 2022. Karthik reportedly approached her through WhatsApp after viewing her profile on the matrimony site.

The accused, promising to marry the victim, asked her to transfer money to his account several times citing emergency. Trusting him, the victim transferred a total of Rs 9,32,000 to the account of the accused.

The police, based on technical evidence gathered during investigation, apprehended the accused in Mancherial district. According to reports, the accused was already involved in three other cheating cases under the LB Nagar and SR Nagar police limits.
