HYDERABAD: In a chilling incident, two constables who grew suspicious over a man carrying a gunny bag accosted him and found, much to their astonishment, that a body of a woman was stuffed in the sack and was being carried.

On the intervening night of May 2 and 3 around 12.30 am, Shadnagar police patrolling car in-charge constable Rafi, another constable Bupal Reddy and SPO Govardhan (driver), while patrolling on the outskirts of Chatanpally village towards Buchiguda road, caught one person carrying a gunny bag on his head in a suspicious manner.

They stopped him and checked the bag and were shocked to find a female body, aged about 30 years.

Upon interrogation, the suspect Ramulu confessed to have committed the crime.

Ramulu (45) of Patel road, Shadnagar married one Sharadha about 15 years s ago and they have one daughter aged about 13. For the last six years, he developed friendship with one Purushotham who is also working as a labourer along with Ramulu.

As accused Ramululu had a desire to have male child, he requested Purushotam and took his one month old male child for adoption by paying Rs 1.5 lakhs.

After two months, Devaki, wife of Purushotham, went to Ramulu’s house and demanded that her child be returned.

The accused person’s family convinced her and sent her back.

Even on Monday night around 10.30 pm, Devaki went to the house of Ramulu and picked up a quarrel with the latter’s family to return her son.

Ramulu, his wife Sharada and Sharadha’s sister also tried to convince Devaki to reconcile to the fact. But she did not heed to their words. Instead, she yelled at them demanding her child back. Enraged by this, Ramulu decided to kill her. After an hour into heated arguments in the presence of his family members in the same house, Ramulu strangulated her with 'Chunni' (a piece of cloth sported on the dress by women).

Then, he stuffed the body of the deceased in a gunny bag and planned to dump it on the outskirts of Shadnagar.

The police who caught him redhanded while carrying the sack registered a case under Sections 302,201 read with 34 of the IPC in Shadnagar police station. The inspector of the police station and CLUES team also visited the scene of offence.

All the accused were apprehended and remanded to judicial custody.

Commissioner of Police of Cyberabad Stephen Ravindra lauded the efforts of the constables and rewarded Rafi and Bhupal Reddy for their timely action of apprehending the offender.
