Man from Old City of Hyderabad dies by suicide due to alleged police harassment

HYDERABAD: A man from Hyderabad’s Old City, Mohd Younus, died by suicide in Yakutpura SRT Colony on Saturday. Before taking this step, he recorded a video where he expressed his distress due to alleged police harassment.
In the video, which has gone viral on social media, Younus said that the police were repeatedly troubling him over the disappearance of his nephew, who had been missing for the past four months with a girl. Younus stated that he had no knowledge of their whereabouts, yet he faced pressure from the police. He explained that this constant harassment drove him to take his own life.
The police had been questioning Younus frequently, suspecting his involvement in the case, which caused him immense stress. Despite his claims of ignorance, the pressure continued, leading to the tragic outcome.
Following the incident, MIM MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj visited the family to offer his condolences. He demanded an investigation into the allegations of police harassment and called for strict action against those responsible for Younus’s death.
