HYDERABAD: Telugu YouTuber Praneeth Hanumanthu, who was arrested on Wednesday for making obscene comments on a video involving children, was produced before the Nampally Court on Thursday. Praneeth and three other accused have been sent to judicial remand for 14 days.

Acting on information that Praneeth was in Bengaluru, the Telangana police had apprehended him.

Praneeth runs a YouTube channel called "Phanumantu," producing live video reactions and comments with his friends. In one controversial vlog, he made sexual comments about the relationship between fathers and daughters, which sparked outrage on social media.

The video drew severe criticism from netizens and prominent Tollywood personalities, including Sai Dharam Tej, singer Chinmayi, Adivi Sesh, Sudheer Babu, and Manchu Manoj. They called for strict action against Praneeth, appealing to the Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of the two Telugu states. Responding to these appeals, the Telangana Cyber Security Police took suo motu action and arrested Praneeth in Bengaluru.

A significant development in the case revealed that Praneeth was attempting to flee to the United States. The Telangana police, upon learning of his escape plans, swiftly apprehended him before he could leave the country. Following his arrest, Praneeth was presented before a local court in Bengaluru. With the court's permission, the police obtained a transit warrant to bring him to Hyderabad. He was presented before the Nampally court and remanded to judicial custody.
