HYDERABAD: Rachakonda police on Thursday arrested three drug traffickers who were smuggling cannabis from Sileru in Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad.
The two main accused, Chunchu Ravinder and Manda Babu, who were friends, contacted kingpin Shaik Yaseen, the third accused, who was running a travel business and used to run four-wheelers to Vishakapatnam and other tourist destinations in Andhra Pradesh.
The main accused, together with three others, wanted to start a cannabis business. They planned to buy ganja in the Sileru area, transport it to Boduppal in bulk in their cars, store it in Vasudev Reddy's Auto Garage, and sell it to customers at a higher price.
They acquired 1,240 kg of ganja in November 2021 and drove it to the Boduppal district on November 15, 2021, to dump it in the auto garage. Meanwhile, police searched the area based on a tip-off, but the three escaped and were apprehended.
A case was registered at Medipally police station, and a search was launched to nab them. The trio was apprehended by Adibatla Police on March 23, 2022, while transporting Ganja in two vehicles.
The police seized 140 kg of marijuana and two Innova cars from their possession and put them in judicial detention. The accused were regularly involved in drug peddling operations in order to make quick money.
To prevent them from engaging in such drug peddling operations, Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh M. Bhagwat invoked Preventive Detention Act against them.
