Rise in crime, road accidents in Rachakonda Commissionerate in 2023: CP Sudheer Babu

HYDERABAD: The annual police report for 2023 shows a significant rise in cyber crimes, with a 6.8 percent increase in the crime rate in the Rachakonda police commissionerate.

The 2023 police also report shows that the Rachakonda commissionerate has consistently ranked first in the category of 'convictions of major crime heads'. The report indicates a significant increase in the conviction rate from 59 percent in 2022 to 61 percent in 2023.

The report states that out of the 36.126 cases reported in 2023, 75 percent (27,210) have been disposed of from 5,978 cases brought forward from previous years.

A total of 227 convictions were secured in contested cases, including 20 life imprisonments, 11-20 years in jail, 18 convictions, one imprisoned for four years, 19 imprisoned for three years, 17 imprisoned for two years, and 94 instances of one year imprisonments with a fine.

Police registered 30,148 cases in 2023 as compared to 27,864 in 2022. The report also indicates a 25 percent rise in cyber crime cases, while cases of chain snatching, rape, and general theft have decreased. The number of cases of sexual assault, murder, and kidnapping of children has significantly increased.

Rachakonda commissioner Sudheer Babu revealed that 12 people were booked under the PD Act in a drug case, while 698 people were arrested in 282 drugs cases.

According to the report, crimes against women have decreased by 6.65 percent, and 58 cases of human trafficking have resulted in the arrest of 163 individuals. As many as 188 cases were booked and 972 persons were arrested under the Gaming Act.

As many as 42 cyber criminals, both domestic and foreign, have been arrested and their 89.92 lakh bank accounts have been frozen, with the proceeds distributed to victims.

Operation Smile and Operation Muskan have successfully saved 64 and 136 children respectively, and 21 child marriages were stopped in the year 2023 in Rachakonda police commissionerate.

Rachakonda commissionerate also ranked first in Telangana State for the number of cases settled in three National Lok Adalats, including 8,981 compoundable IPC, SLL, 87,131 e-Petty, and 2892 MV Act cases, according to the report.

The report shows a 16 percent increase in road accident deaths this year, with 3,321 accidents and 633 deaths, and 3,205 injuries compared to last year. The Commissionerate has registered 16,594 cases and cancelled 2,900 driving licenses in 2023, according to the report.
