KHAMMAM: Eight persons were killed and three sustained critical injuries in three road accidents in the two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Two of the mishaps, in which trucks were involved, occurred in Khammam district while another took place in Tirupati district.

In one of the mishaps in Khammam district, three persons belonging to the same family were killed and one sustained grievous injuries when their car was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming truck at a petrol filling station near Konijerla mandal in the wee hours of Thursday. Upon receiving the information about the incident, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured person to nearby hospital for treatment.

The deceased were identified as P Rajesh, Sujatha and their son Aswith, natives of Vippalamadaka village in Wyra mandal. Rajesh was an employee of a private pharmacy company in Hyderabad. The incident happened when they were traveling back to Hyderabad from their native place. A pall of gloom descended on Vippalamadaka after the tragic news broke out.

In another incident, two persons were killed in a collision of two lorries near VA Bazar in Khammam. Locals, police and rescue team had struggled for almost three hours to rescue the drivers who got stuck in the lorry cabins. Unfortunately, the efforts of the police and rescue team went in vain as the two persons died of suffocation after being taken out of the lorry cabins. The police registered a case and sent the bodies for post-mortem.

3 of family perish as car crashes into bus in Tirupati district

In another tragic incident, three members of the same family were killed and two others sustained serious injuries when the car they were traveling in collided with an APSRTC bus on the Tirupati-SriKalahasti highway. The incident happened near Merlapaka lake in Yerpedu Mandal of Tirupati district in the early hours of Thursday.

According to Yerpedu Circle Inspector Sri Hari, the deceased were identified as Venkatamma, Ashok and Sanchari, all residents of Divanpalle in Mahabubabad district of Telangana. They were traveling to their hometown after a darshan at Tirumala. The couple and their child were killed on the spot. The injured were immediately rushed to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati and the condition of the injured persons is said to be critical, the inspector said. The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
