Robbers take away Rs 17 Lakhs in ATM heist near Vizag
Robbers disabled the CCTV cameras by cutting wires and used gas cutters to vandalise the ATM.
VISAKHAPATNAM: Robbers stole Rs 17 lakhs in a daring heist at the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Deshapatrunipalem, Parawada. The incident occurred between 2 and 3:30 a.m. on the Gajuwaka-Elamanchili road.
According to Parawada Inspector Balasurya Rao, the assailants arrived in a car at midnight. They disabled the CCTV cameras by cutting the wires and then used gas cutters to vandalize the ATM and steal the cash. In their bid to avoid identification, they also targeted another ATM nearby and destroyed six CCTV cameras, burning them with gas cutters to ensure no footage was recorded.
Parawada DSP K.V. Satyanarayana, who inspected the scene, confirmed the details of the theft. Locals reported seeing two individuals with bags exiting the ATM and leaving in a car during the early hours of Wednesday.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway following a complaint lodged by Palakurthi Srinivas Apparao, a representative of the ATM management company. The police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the culprits.
