Siblings die by suicide after families disapprove of marriages
Brother and sister, Prashanth and Navya, die by suicide due to family disapproval of their relationships.
SIRCILLA: A brother and sister in Sircilla died by suicide within three months of each other after their families disapproved of their romantic relationships.
Palakurthi Lingaiah and Padma, residents of Nookalmarri village in the Vemulawada Rural Mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district, are the parents of 22-year-old Prashanth and his younger sister, Navya.
Navya was married six months ago to a man who subsequently moved to a Gulf country. After her husband's departure, Navya revealed to her parents that she had been in love with another man from the same village for five years. She expressed her desire to marry him, but her parents refused. Distraught by their disapproval, Navya consumed pesticide and died by suicide three months ago.
Tragically, Navya's lover's sister was also in a five-year relationship with Navya's brother, Prashanth. When they approached their families about marriage, they were met with disapproval. Devastated, Prashanth also consumed pesticides. Despite receiving medical treatment, he succumbed to the poisoning and passed away.
