KHAMMAM: Tammineni Krishnaiah, a TRS leader, was brutally murdered in broad daylight on Sunday in Teldarupalli village, Khammam Rural mandal, in the district.

Minutes after hoisting the national flag at Ponnekal Rythu Vedika in the mandal, the 55-year-old TRS leader was hacked to death. Former CPM leader Tammineni Krishnaiah recently joined the TRS party.

He was attacked with sickles, axes, and knives by the assailants, who captured him and killed him at Maddulapalli double bedroom buildings, close to Teldarupalli village. They then left him dead in a pool of blood on the roadside.

In addition to being a close friend of the late minister, Tammineni Nageswara Rao, Krishnaiah also happens to be a relative of CPM State Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram. According to reports, Krishnaih received a number of death threats after quitting the CPM, his wife Mangatayi being elected as a local MPTC member, and his victory in cooperative society elections.

Following the assassination of the TRS leader, tension prevailed in the Khammam district. Supporters of the late leader broke into Tummala Kaoteswara Rao's home and accused him of murdering Krishnaiah.

According to reports, the police sent out special teams to apprehend the murderers. To avoid any unforeseen events, security has been heightened in the area.

The murder sparked a riot in the Khammam district. Furious Krishnaiah followers hurled stones at CPI-M leader Tammineni Koteshwar Rao's house, accusing him of involvement in Krishnaiah's murder. They wrecked the cars, furniture, and other things. The police were having a difficult time controlling the numerous attackers.

Tammineni Krishnaiah's wife, Mangatayaru, a local MPTC member, and a number of TRS leaders condemned his murder. Naveen Tammineni, the son of Tammineni Krishnaiah, filed a complaint with the Khammam rural police station against seven people.
