HANAMKONDA: The Inthezarganj police of Hanamkonda district have arrested five persons including a corporator of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) for their alleged involvement in a land encroachment case under Warangal police commissionerate limits. GWMC Division 7 corporator Vemula Srinivas and the other accused were later sent for remand.

According to reports, Narva Sunitha, a resident of Hanuman Nagar in Hanamkonda district, started construction of a house on her land with survey no. 44 after obtaining all approvals from the Corporation.

But, little did they imagine that they would have to face trouble in the form of GWMC Division 7 corporator Vemula Srinivas. He allegedly harassed and intimidated both Sunitha and her husband to force them into submission and give away their land for the construction of an apartment complex. However, as the victims did not heed to his demand, Vemula Srinivas, along with his henchmen, created fake documents. Claiming that the said land fell under survey no. 648, he began pressuring them to vacate the place. In this process, the politician’s men also resorted to violence to scare the victims into surrender. The driver of the corporator destroyed the construction fence with a Bolero vehicle and set up the new boundaries.

Following a complaint from the victims, the Hanamakonda police registered a case, examined the documents related to the land as per the orders of their superiors and found that it was indeed encroached by the corporator. The Hanamakonda police arrested the corporator and the driver on Saturday night along with three others and sent them for remand. The action followed a preliminary investigation which confirmed that they had threatened and demolished the retaining wall on the land.

In another incident, Pokkulu Chiranjeevi Rao, Godasi Ashwin Kumar and Surojo Ramesh from Warangal city, who tried to encroach a piece of land in survey number 90/B in Desaipet, were arrested by the Intejhargambi police. Two others related to the case, Bommakanti Srinivas and Munuganti Ramesh, are absconding. The accused were arrested for forging documents and threatening the original landowners.
