UoH professor Sachidananda Mohanty appointed as UGC member

He is a former Professor and Head of the Department of English, University of Hyderabad (UoH) and former Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha.

HYDERABAD: Prof Sachidananda Mohanty has been appointed as a Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of three years, effective from April 10, 2024 according to a communication by the Ministry of Higher Education, Govt of India.

In a career spanning more than three decades, Prof Mohanty has received many distinctions in the field of education and culture nationally and internationally.

He is a former Professor and Head of the Department of English, University of Hyderabad (UoH) and former Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha. Prof Mohanty is also an alumnus of Dept. Of English, UoH, MA 1977-79, the second batch.

Winner of many national and international awards, such as the Katha, British Council, Fulbright, Charles Wallace, and the Salzburg, he has published extensively in the field of British, American, Gender, translation, and post-colonial Studies. His books have appeared in Oxford, Sage, Routledge and Orient Longman, among other notable Publishing Houses.

Dr Mohanty’s contributions to the academic genres of travel writing, cosmopolitanism, institutional history, early women’s writing in Eastern India, and postcolonial/cultural history of India have been widely recognized as path-breaking at the national and international level.

Currently he is the Sri Aurobindo Chair Professor at Punjab University, Chandigarh.
