SECUNDERABAD: At least 36 students were hospitalised for emergency treatment following a gas leak at Kasthuriba Degree and PG College in East Marredpally of Secunderabad on Friday afternoon. About 16 of them were being treated in ICU of Geetha Nursing Home, located nearby in Secunderabad.

The gas leak was said to have happened soon after the lunch break. Some of the students were reported to have fainted while a few others suffered vomiting after inhaling the gas that emanated from the laboratory of the college. All the students, whose health was affected, had been admitted to Geetha Nursing Home, located nearby in Secunderabad.

According to information, the laboratory was located on the ground floor of the college. It is reported that a chemical that was overused in the chemistry laboratory leaked out in gaseous form and quickly spread to the top floors of the college building. The affected students were said to be in the second, third and fourth floor of the college building.
