Crime rate up by 19 percent in 2022 in Rachakonda commissioneate: Mahesh Bhagwat

Property crimes increased by 23 percent, while the recovery rate for property crimes increased from 57 percent to 63 percent

HYDERABAD: The overall crime rate increased by 19 percent in 2022 when compared to 2021, according to the Rachakonda Commissionerate's annual round-up report for 2022.

While speaking to the media at the Rachakonda Commissionerate's annual round-up on Saturday, Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said that, while overall crime increased by 19 percent in 2022, murders and kidnappings decreased by 29 percent and 38 percent, respectively.

Rape cases decreased by 1.33 percent, while crime against women increased by 17 percent and dowry cases decreased by 5.88 percent, according to the statistics. In 2022, cybercrime cases increased by 66 percent, while cheating cases increased by 3 percent.

Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat also stated that culpable homicide cases had decreased by 50 percent, while cases of abetment to commit suicide had decreased by 84 percent. Women's murder cases fell by 63 percent, while crimes against the weaker sections fell by 2 percent.

Property crimes increased by 23 percent, while the recovery rate for property crimes increased from 57 percent to 63 percent.

Enforcement of NDPS cases increased by 140 percent, while enforcement of Gaming Act cases increased by 17 percent. PITA cases decreased by 3%, while Gutka cases decreased by 131%, according to Mahesh Bhagwat.

According to Rachakonda traffic statistics, the number of road accidents increased by 19 percent, while the number of fatalities decreased by 0.91 percent. Fatal accidents increased by 0.16 percent, while fatal accidents on ORR decreased by 7.69 percent and deaths in ORR accidents decreased by 31.58 percent.
