Over 25,000 buildings in GHMC may be unauthorised, says Minister Talasani

SECUNDERABAD: Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Saturday said there could be over 25,000 unauthorized buildings in the twin cities.

He visited the fire accident site at the Deccan Sports store at Ramgopalpet in Secunderabad and inspected the rescue operations. He said that there could be three dead bodies in the building and pointed out that it was yet to be ascertained how many more bodies were trapped in the gutted store.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that it had taken two days to control the fire due to the presence of 10,000 tonnes of material in the building. He said that the government was taking expert advice to dismantle the building and assured the families of those who died in the fire accident that the Government would pay a compensation and to those whose houses collapsed in the accident.

Stating that frequent fire accidents were taking place in the old buildings in Secunderabad and Hyderabad, Talasani said that the government would take strict measures to prevent the fire accidents.

He said a meeting would be conducted on January 23 and come up with a strategy to prevent such massive fire accidents in the future and added that the GHMC would dismantle the buildings that did not have permission and NOCs from the Fire department.

The minister said it would take two days to dismantle the building and assured the people of nearby areas that arrangements would be made for them at Munnuru Kapu Bhavan until the building was demolished.
