HYDERABAD: BJP MLA Raja Singh was arrested by the Hyderabad police on Thursday. He was reportedly taken into custody by the Mangalhat police. This is the second time the controversial Goshamahal MLA of the BJP was arrested within a span of three days. He was earlier arrested on Tuesday but the police remand motion was rejected by a local court.

Following the arrest, a press statement released by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand stated that PD ACT was invoked against Raja Singh, in accordance with Act No. 1 of 1986.

The Hyderabad city police, in the statement, described Raja Singh as a "Rowdy Sheeter" from the Mangalhat police station. They further claimed that there were 101 criminal cases registered against him since 2004. According to them, the Goshamahal MLA has 18 communal offences reported against him in various police stations throughout the city. On August 25, the Mangalhat Police implemented the PD order against him, and he is now being held at Cherlapally Central Prison, the statement said.

The police reportedly arrived in huge numbers at Raja Singh's house to enforce the arrest. Raja Singh was earlier served with two 41(A) warrants by the Shahinayathgunj and Mangalhat police, based on cases that were booked on April 12, 2022 and February 19, 2022, respectively.

Earlier in the day, BJP MLA Raja Singh claimed that the Telangana police department hatched a conspiracy against him. He alleged that the police department issued two 41(A) warrants from two different police stations in connection with old cases with the intention of arresting him on Thursday.

He alleged that Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Home Minister Mohammed Mehmood Ali, and Minister K T Rama Rao were to blame for the communal tensions in Hyderabad.

He claimed that the Hyderabad police served him out-of-date notices on Thursday with the intention of arresting him. Putting on a brave face, he continued to challenge the Hyderabad police to arrest him saying that he was prepared for it.

Raja Singh was earlier arrested by the Hyderabad police on Tuesday morning after his alleged objectionable remarks sparked protests from AIMIM and caused tension in the Old City. However, the Nampally Criminal Court on Tuesday evening ordered his immediate release, citing non-compliance with the CRPC procedures.
