HYDERABAD: The HMDA and GHMC in collaboration with the Yacht club of Hyderabad launched a water school in Hyderabad. Water sports like sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, standup padding and other allied water sports will be taught at Durgam Cheruvu.

The clean waters of Durgam Cheruvu will serve as a nursery to train and produce enthusiastic athletes in water sports. In an urge to win national medals for the country and enthusiastically participate in future Asian and Olympic games, the water school will extend 14 years of expertise of the Yacht Club in training the participants. Apart from serving as a hub for all water sports, the water school is also expected to become home to future champions. A large part of the training will also be undertaken by homegrown National and State Champions.

The Water School proposes to be a sophisticated training centre for both serious and recreational sports persons. The school is also well equipped with the latest infrastructure and dedicated coaches. Hyderabad's young sailors, trained in the Yacht Club are seen participating and hosting International and World Championships across continents. The water school aims to teach the basics to the young sailors and instill confidence in them to later pursue for National, Olympic and Asian games.

Durgam Cheruvu situated in the IT corridor of Hyderabad perfectly inclined to the necessity for building a water school. The management expects large and interactive participation in all sports on offer. They facilitate all age groups with sports like sailing and windsurfing for the younger crowd and kayaking and standup paddling for the seniors. Water School also plan to launch a lifesaving certification program over a period.

The facility was inaugurated by Special Chief Secretary, Shri Arvind Kumar, IAS on 28 Aug 2022 at 4.30 PM and courses are set to be launched soon.
