Sunita Krishnan moots US-like register for sex offenders
Sunita Krishnan believes that the Sex Offenders Register will aid recruiters in exercising caution when doing hiring.
HYDERABAD: Sunita Krishnan, a social activist and the founder of Prajwala, has called for the creation of a Sex Offenders Register for the state of Telangana, similar to the one that exists in the United States, which the public can access for recruitment purposes, among other things.
Sunita Krishnan, who pitched the idea to Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao on Thursday, intends to submit a concept note based on research on 20-countries.
Sunita Krishnan believes that the Sex Offenders Register will aid recruiters in exercising caution when doing hiring. Additionally, in this method, recruiters should exercise caution by avoiding the hiring of repeat criminals and doing thorough background checks whenever hiring. She also asserts that this registry may be made accessible to the public and used for hiring.
Telangana IT and MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao expressed enthusiasm for the concept and stated he was prepared to pursue it. He tweeted in response to Sunita Krishnan's tweet, "Let's absolutely get it done. Please present the concept note and we will take it forward".
Krishnan, who has already sent a concept note and an outline of the Telangana Sex Offender's Registration Bill to Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao's office on Thursday, believes that this initiative will cause jitters in the minds of all perpetrators and may act as a deterrent. Netizens responded to Sunita Krishnan's initiative by saying it's a wonderful idea that should apply to all criminals who commit heinous crimes.
