AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for a mega housing programme under Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu (Housing for Poor Scheme) on Monday at Krishnayapalem in Amaravati. Under the programme, affordable houses would be constructed for 50,793 beneficiaries along with 45 social infrastructure projects at a cost of Rs 1,829.57 crore in the R5 Zone of Amaravati.

Speaking at the event, Jagan announced that Amaravati was for all, transcending economic boundaries. He proclaimed that the houses being provided through the programme were not merely households but essential tools for achieving social justice.

"Today is a special day in the history of the State. It marks the victory of the poor over their enemies." Jagan asserted.

The State Government recently fought and won a legal battle in the Supreme Court to secure housing opportunities for the underprivileged. "18 cases were filed in the High Court and 5 cases in the Supreme Court against the distribution of houses to the poor that was legally defeated," said Jagan, slamming the opposition for conspiring against the poor.

"Despite facing opposition from farmers backed by the Telugu Desam Party, who attempted to obstruct the distribution of house sites through legal means, their efforts proved futile. These farmers argued that providing housing opportunities to the poor would disrupt the demographic balance in the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). Nevertheless, the Government's unwavering commitment has prevailed, and now the economically weaker sections will receive houses worth Rs 7 to 10 lakh, registered in the names of my sisters. This momentous achievement signifies the triumph of social justice," Jagan asserted.

The Chief Minister also took a dig at the opposition leaders for creating obstacles against the pursuit of the Government to do justice to the poor.

"Chandrababu, Eenadu, Andhra Jyoti, TV5, and an adopted son (Pawan Kalyan) obstructed the housing initiatives. These actions continue even today, as they persistently hinder opportunities for the underprivileged to own or build houses," he said.

Concluding his address, Jagan expressed hope that the construction of houses in Amaravati would be completed by Sankranti 2024. The project encompassed 25 layouts, benefiting 23,762 poor women in 11 layouts of Guntur district and 27,031 women in 14 layouts of NTR district.
