HYDERABAD: Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday said that Hyderabad was advancing at a fast pace in the field of IT and reached a position to compete with Bengaluru.

Speaking after releasing the annual report on the performance of the IT sector in Telangana for 2022-23 at T-Hub here, Rama Rao said that many were surprised with his statement in 2014, after the formation of the state, that Telangana would be in the top position in the IT sector in the country. “Despite lack of support from the Centre and even after the removal of the state from the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), the state government, with its steadfast efforts in the last decade ensured Hyderabad’s emergence among the top IT performers in the country,” he said.

The minister said that the wheel of IT development continued in the state even during the crippling times of COVID-19 for two years. In the past few years, Hyderabad has been moving faster than the national average in all the indices of IT sector growth and made the city the most attractive investment destination for IT and its allied sectors. All this was made possible by a stable government and the able leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, KTR said. He also appealed to the youth to grab all the opportunities arising in Telangana as it would be a boon for the local aspirants, as opposed to those relocating to Telangana from other states.

The IT minister further said that Hyderabad was not just cosmopolitan but also an international city. Many corporate giants have established their largest facilities or second campuses in the city. KTR, at this juncture, took the reference of Super Star Rajinikanth, who recently heaped praises on Hyderabad, likening the city to New York in terms of holistic development. Apart from focusing on IT-sector improvement in Hyderabad, the Telangana Government has also laid emphasis on developing IT infrastructure in Tier-II cities like Warangal, Nizamabad, Siddipet and Nalgonda, he said.

KTR added that plans were underway to inaugurate three IT hubs in the State besides Hyderabad. The first IT hub will be opened at Siddipet on June 15, 2023 and the remaining two in Nizamabad and Nalgonda will be inaugurated in July and August of this years respectively, the IT Minister added.
