HYDERABAD: In a significant development aimed at providing affordable housing for the economically weaker sections, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), is set to inaugurate the 2BHK Dignity Housing Colony, considered to be the largest in Asia, on June 22, 2023. Located in Kollur of Sangareddy district, this complex comprises a staggering 15,660 double-bedroom houses in 117 blocks spread across a sprawling 142-acre area. The project was built at a cost of Rs 1,489 crore and aims to address the pressing need for decent accommodation for the underprivileged as part of the State Government’s 2BHK housing scheme.

Designed to compete with private builders in the region, the Kollur complex boasts of 117 blocks ranging from G+9 to G+10 floors. These buildings are equipped with modern amenities such as a 33/11 KV sub-station for uninterrupted electricity supply, provision for drinking water and a sewage treatment plant to ensure a clean and healthy living environment.

The safety of residents has been prioritised with the installation of 136 CCTV cameras for enhanced security surveillance. Each floor is served by two high-quality lifts ensuring convenience and accessibility for all. Additionally, the complex features 118 shops, which will generate income for a welfare association, which was formed by the beneficiaries to manage the apartments. The association plans to rent out the shops, further contributing to the financial stability of the 2BHK beneficiaries.

The initiative has garnered national recognition, as the Kollur 2BHK Dignity Housing Colony has been awarded the prestigious Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) award for best practices in the category of housing, urban poverty and infrastructure. This recognition highlights the project's adherence to high standards and its positive impact on the lives of the economically weaker sections.
