HYDERABAD: Five monuments including Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge and the revamped Yadadri Temple in Telangana, have received the 'International Beautiful Buildings Green Apple Awards’.

The Green Organisation, based in London, picked these stunning structures in Telangana – Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, Yadadri Temple, Dr B R Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, Integrated Command Control Room of the state police and Mozamjahi Market.

Established in 1994 in London, the Green Organization is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing, rewarding and promoting environmental best practices

around the world.

They have been organising the 'Green Apple Awards' in London, UK, on an annual basis since 2016. The awards seek to recognise outstanding businesses, councils and communities.

The "International Beautiful Buildings Green Apple Awards," among many factors, aim to honour the excellent and appealing visual impact of the edifices on the surrounding environment.

The list of categories considered for the awards is extensive; it ranges from residences to castles, museums to bridges and religious monuments to heritage structures. Previously, buildings like the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in London; National Museum of Qatar and Jalan Mahkota in Kuantan, Malaysia, have won this prestigious Award.

Based on the confidence obtained from its developmental accomplishments, the Telangana government has consistently enlisted its projects and policies to be evaluated for global recognition.

The World Green City Awards (2022), Tree City of the World Award (2021), and Living & Inclusion Award - Smart City Expo World Congress (2021) stand testimony to the State's achievements receiving global recognition.

Extending this practice, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department applied for the 'International Green Apple Awards for Beautiful Buildings' under the Urban and Real Estate Sector on behalf of the Telangana Government, with support from the National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM).

Based on the applications received, five entries from Telangana were chosen for the awards. It is the first time that any building or construction in India has received the prestigious Green Apple awards and Telangana has the distinction of obtaining five awards for the year 2023.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has expressed his delight at the state receiving five accolades in five distinct categories, especially as these awards are being awarded for Indian Buildings for the first time. This underlines the future-oriented planning in building designs and architecture, and it would provide a significant boost to the real estate market in Hyderabad and Telangana.

The awards ceremony is set to take place on June 16, 2023 in London, UK. The State Government has delegated Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, MA&UD, to accept these honours on behalf of the Telangana Government.
