NEW DELHI: Telangana Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud on Tuesday demanded Union Tourism Minister and BJP Telangana senior leader G Kishan Reddy to tender an unconditional apology to BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha for peddling blatant lies on the destruction of her phones and making false allegations against her.

Addressing the media in the national capital a few hours after Kavitha appeared before the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) for questioning for the third time in the Delhi liquor scam case, the Minister accused the BJP leaders of targetting, harassing and carrying out vindictive politics against a woman for vested political interests. Srinivas Goud on this occasion played a video clipping of Kishan Reddy openly alleging that Kavitha had destroyed her phones to escape from the Delhi liquor scam.

“Now that Kavitha had displayed all her phones before entering the ED office and promised to submit them to the investigators, how will Kishan Reddy justify his accusations? Where will he hide his face? Day in and day out, they say they respect women. But this is the sad reality. They are brazenly trying to tarnish the reputation of Kavitha, a woman, with false allegations,” Srinivas Goud commented.

“How could Kishan Reddy claim that Kavitha destroyed her phones in November, 2022 itself? Can he divulge the evidence now in support of his claims? Now that he is exposed, I would like to know if Kishan Reddy will show the courage to tender his unconditional apology to Kavitha,” the Minister said.

Srinivas Goud also sought to expose the hypocrisy of the BJP-led NDA government in targeting political rivals with trivial cases while trying to shield a bunch of economic offenders who fled the country after cheating banks of lakhs of crores of rupees. “What happened to the episodes of your own Neerav Modi, Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya and (Mehul) Choksi? They all are roaming freely abroad after cheating Indian banks of lakhs of crores of rupees. No one knows what is happening about the cases against them. On the contrary, discreet attempts are also being made to rid them of legal troubles and eventually facilitate their entry back in India. The BJP on the other hand is harassing and vilifying rivals with a wave of vindictive politics,” he said.

The Minister alleged that the BJP was also indulging in a campaign of bluster to manufacture fictitious evidence and masquerade it as reality. “The truth is, there is no evidence against Kavitha in the Delhi liquor case. Knowing that she is not a culprit, they are peddling lies to tarnish her image in public for vested political interests. They began the misinformation campaign long before she could be served a notice in the case. How was this possible? Why didn’t the ED summon Kavitha then itself if it knew of the MLC destroying evidence in November 2022?” wondered Srinivas Goud.
