HYDERABAD: The BRS, which lost in the Telangana Assembly elections, is looking to ramp up its fortunes for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The party's working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) kicked off preparations by holding segment-wise meetings with key leaders for each of the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies which began on January 3, 2024 and ended on January 22.

According to the plan, the party is aiming to win atleast 10-12 seats. Unlike the Assembly elections where BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) resisted from replacing most of the incumbents, which was considered as one of the reasons for their loss in the elections, the party seems to have changed its strategy and is planning to give tickets to as many as 10 new aspirants and renominating only about three MPs.

According to sources, the BRS is planning to retain its sitting MPs in Khammam (Nama Nageswar Rao), Chevella (Dr G Ranjith Reddy) and Zahirabad (BB Patil).

Apart from Vinod Kumar who is most likely to get a ticket again to contest from Karimnagar, there is a chance that new candidates would be announced in Mahabubnagar, Peddapally, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubabad Warangal, Malkajgiri, Adilabad and Bhuvanagiri.

However the big question lies in whether K Kavitha would contest from Nizamabad. While Kavitha had declared last year that she would contest from that seat, it looks like the prospects of Dharmapuri Arvind, who is most likely to be BJP's face in Nizamabad, looks bright and is set to give her a tough fight. Arvind has already started his campaigns holding meetings regularly and is buoyed by the party's performance in the Assembly polls in north Telangana. The BRS however has not revealed its cards as yet.

Another big seat which would be keenly watched is the Medak Lok Sabha seat. Will KCR, who has his intentions on playing a bigger role in national politics, contest from this seat? All these queries would be answered in less than a month.
