Classes in 17 new BC Gurukul Degree Colleges in Telangana to commence from this year

Chief Secretary of the BC Welfare Department has been asked to take steps for commencement of classes in the new BC Gurukul Degree Colleges from this academic year

HYDERABAD: Minister for BC Welfare Gangula Kamalakar expressed happiness over the sanctioning of 17 new BC Gurukul Degree Colleges in Telangana. In a statement released on Tuesday, Kamalakar thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for sanctioning the colleges, bringing the total number of BC Gurukul Degree Colleges in the state to 327.

Kamalakar said that the new colleges would help improve the social and economic status of backward communities.

On the directions of KCR, Chief Secretary of the BC Welfare Department Burra Venkatesam has been asked to take all necessary steps for commencement of classes in these colleges from this academic year itself by granting administrative sanctions.

Sharing details about the previous academic year, Gangula Kamalakar said that, in addition to a college in Wargal, 15 more Gurukul Degree Colleges were established for which classes had already commenced. Of these, two are agriculture degree colleges. Overall, In the 2022-23 academic year, 33 new Gurukul colleges were established in all the districts.

Kamalakar highlighted that, under the leadership of KCR, backward communities were now living in a golden era. He said that due to negligence by the previous governments, only 7,000 students received Gurukul education in 19 Gurukul institutions across the state.

“The KCR government gradually increased the number of Gurukuls to 261, then to 310 and now to 327. About 1,68,000 children from backward communities have so far received education in English medium in BC Gurukuls. They are now excelling in all competitive examinations and are making Telangana proud,” praised Kamalakar.

He concluded by saying that the KCR government would spend thousands of crores for the welfare of the underprivileged communities to mark the auspicious occasion of 10 glorious years of Telangana.
