HYDERABAD: Former Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy has said that the Congress Government in Telangana has deliberately ignored the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar and locked his memorial blocking entry to people only because it was built by K Chandrashekar Rao.

Addressing media at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Niranjan Reddy said the KCR Government had built the 125-feet world’s largest Ambedkar statue next to the State secretariat named after the architect of the Indian Constitution in his memory.

“None of the Congress Ministers visited the Statue of Equality to offer floral tributes to the great soul not people were allowed to visit the Statue by ‘Smriti Vanam’ on Sunday. The Congress made Ambedkar an orphan on his anniversary, “Niranjan Reddy pointed out. He challenged the Congress Government to also abandon the secretariat named after Ambedkar.

Recalling that Congress had always disrespected Dr BR Ambedkar, he said that it was the then Prime Minister VP Singh who conferred Bharat Ratna on Ambedkar and not the Congress. “Congress ensured that Ambedkar was defeated in elections. None of the Congress Prime Ministers ever contemplated awarding the Bharat Ratna to Ambedkar even posthumously,” he said.
