HYDERABAD: A senior resident doctor at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad was cheated by cybercriminal to the tune of Rs 2.58 lakh.

The fraud occurred when a person named Jitender Sharma responded to the OLX advertisement given by the resident doctor offering to sell an electric chair. The accused introduced himself as an owner of a furniture shop in Kukatpally and agreed to purchase the chair, used for relaxation purposes.

Leaving the precaution to the wind, the doctor scanned the QR code provided by Jitender Sharma, hoping that he would receive the money. Instead, Rs 2.58 lakh vanished from his account. The doctor, after realising that he was deceived, approached the cybercrime police. Police are investigating the case.
