HYDERABAD: The proposed tour of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Telangana and his public meeting in Khammam scheduled for June 15, 2023 have been cancelled in view of Cyclone Biparjoy’s impact on the country’s west coast.

The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced the cancellation of the party strongman’s visit to the state. However, the party did not disclose a new date for the much anticipated public meeting of the senior BJP leader in Khammam.

BJP Telangana President Bandi Sanjay, in a tweet, said that the postponement was necessitated because of the severe cyclonic conditions on the west coast, especially in the three states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

The party said that the cyclonic situation prevailing on the west coast required a 24-hour vigil by the Union home minister. As the NDRF teams were already deployed, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union home minister was personally monitoring the relief and rescue operations.

Bandi Sanjay expressed confidence that the emerging situation would be effectively tackled to ensure the safety of each and every citizen.
