HYDERABAD: With delay in the onset of southwest monsoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Telangana for the next few days with a forecast of likely heat wave conditions and the prospect of light-to-moderate rain or thunderstorms at isolated pockets in the State.

According to an IMD report, light-to-moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places in Telangana from June 5 (Monday) till June 9, 2023. Manchiryala, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Jogulamba Gadwala, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Mahabubnagar, Medchal, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Rangareddy, Nirmal and Nagarkurnool districts are likely to receive rainfall.

Scorching temperatures are predicted to be experienced all this week in the districts where there is no rainfall and the daytime temperatures are likely to range between 42 and 44 Degrees Celsius. People in Khammam, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Peddapalli districts are expected to experience hot winds even as the IMD advised the public to take precautions against heat stroke and avoid going out in the sun during the peak hours of the day.

According to T Balaji, popularly known as Telangana Weatherman, monsoon will set only after June 15. This time, it is not only delayed but also going to be a weak onset. Till June 15, the rains that may occur will be considered as pre monsoon thunderstorms, with indications of high humid heat followed by scattered rains.

Extreme heat wave in Andhra Pradesh till June 12, 2023

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh is expected to experience an extreme heat wave from Tuesday till June 12, 2023. As per the predictions given by IMD’s Amaravati Centre, heat waves, characterised by hot humid and uncomfortable weather, is likely to prevail at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Dry and warm winds from central India are likely to grip the Andhra coast. This can result in record day temperatures that can hover between 42-47 Degrees Celsius.
