HYDERABAD: Eid-Ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Telangana on Thursday as the official moon sighting body, the Markazi Ruet e Hilal Committee could not sight the crescent of Shawwal on Tuesday. Hence April 10 would be the 30th day of fasting and Eid will be celebrated on Thursday.

As a result, Muslims in Telangana along with their brethren in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and many other parts of the country will observe another day of fasting. However, Kerala and Ladakh will celebrate the festival on April 10 as the Shawwal crescent moon was sighted there.

With the committee declaring Eid, celebrations started all over the State with Eidgahs all across the State, and all major Mosques in the State including the historical Mecca Masjid in the old city here are spruced up for prayers on Eid. With the festive mood descending on the public, a heavy rush is witnessed in the old city and elsewhere in the state for last-minute purchases. The sales generally surge during the last 10 days of Ramzan.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India has declared April 11 as a holiday for all public and private banks on April 11 on the occasion of Eid Ul Fitr.

Two-day holiday

Telangana Government also declared a two-day holiday for the festival. As per the Government calendar, April 11 and 12 will be holidays. The calendar mentioned holidays on April 11 for ‘Eid-ul-Fitr’ and April 12 for the ‘Following day of Eid’
