HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Telangana State Election Commission (SEC), the Telangana Assembly Secretary as well as and the Telangana Chief Secretary to declare DK Aruna as the MLA of Gadwal, in accordance with the verdict of the Telangana High Court.

The High Court had recently disqualified BRS leader Krishna Mohan Reddy, the sitting MLA of Gadwal, for submitting a false affidavit. The court found that Reddy had concealed information about his assets in the affidavit he submitted before the Election Commission.

The ECI has asked the officials to publish a gazette notification declaring Aruna as the MLA of Gadwal. The commission also asked the SEC to take necessary action to ensure that Aruna was sworn in as the MLA as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday challenging the verdict of the Telangana High Court.
