HYDERABAD: Central Zone DCP Venkateshwarlu has clarified that Pravalika, who committed suicide in a hostel in Chikkadpally on Friday, died due to a failed relationship and had nothing to do with Group-2 examinations.

Addressing media on Saturday Venkateshwarlu said, "Marri Pravalika (23) of Warangal district moved into the Brindavan Girls Hostel in Ashok Nagar just 15 days ago and was taking coaching for Group-2 examinations. She was in love with a man named Shivaram Rathore. Her parents too knew about their love affair. A day before, Pravalika came to know that Shivaram got engaged to another girl. Unable to bear the pain, she hanged herself to a ceiling fan,” he said.

"We have recovered a suicide note and sent it to a forensic lab. We also have her chat records from her mobile phone. She in fact made the last phone call to Shivaram. We have confirmed that Pravalika committed suicide out of resentment that he had cheated her. We have examined the CCTV footage where Shivaram met her a day before at a restaurant. Any action against Shivaram would be taken up after a complete investigation." he said.

The DCP added that Pravalika's suicide had nothing to do with the postponement of the Group-2 exams.

"This incident is being linked with another issue. Local students and student union leaders staged a dharna. Cases have been registered against those who protested yesterday. Do not spread any rumours," he warned.
