HYDERABAD: In a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana unit ahead of Assembly elections in the State, former minister A Chandrasekhar on Saturday announced his resignation from the primary membership of the party.

A communication in this regard was sent by Chandrasekhar to BJP Telangana unit President G Kishan Reddy. Chandrasekhar was likely to join the Congress in New Delhi on August 18, 2023.

In his letter, Chandrasekhar said, "The BJP-led Central Government is not in a position to prevent the irregularities being made by the Telangana Government. In such circumstances, I have decided to resign from the party. In my three-and-half decade political career, I have worked for the well-being and aspirations of people."

In January 2019, Chandrasekhar had joined BJP at a public meeting held in Vikarabad. Chandrasekhar served as an MLA for five times from 1985 to 2008. He won as MLA four times from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and one time from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party and later joined Congress and BJP. He resigned from the BJP and once again likely to join the Congress.
