HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conducted a comprehensive review meeting at the Secretariat on Friday, focusing on the financial status of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) and the State's power supply.

As promised in its Congress manifesto, the Chief Minister approved free bus travel for women across Telangana and the scheme would begin from December 9, 2023 to coincide with former Congress president Sonia Gandhi's birthday.

According to rules which would be shared by the TSRTC MD VC Sajjannar on Friday, women need to show their Aadhaar cards to the bus conductor as proof of being a resident of Telangana.

In the Cabinet meeting, a special presentation by officials addressed the potential losses associated with the Congress party's promise of free bus travel for women as part of their 'six guarantees.'

With the average daily income of RTC being Rs 14 crore and an annual revenue of Rs 2,500 crore through women passengers, the Government faces the challenge of supporting this initiative while the corporation grapples with accumulated losses of Rs 6,000 crore.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also reviewed the financial conditions of the State power sector, covering aspects of electricity consumption, distribution, and production. Present at the meeting were Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari.
