Following a request from Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu, BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao decided to support the candidature of Prasad Kumar to the post.

Hyderabad: Vikarabad Congress MLA Gaddam Prasad Kumar has filed his nomination for the post of Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, elections for which are scheduled for December 14. Prasad Kumar submitted his nomination papers to the Assembly Secretary in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, along with Congress Ministers and MLAs. The BRS too extended support to the Congress candidate.

Following a request from Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu, BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao decided to support the candidature of Prasad Kumar to the post.

Accordingly, BRS working president KT Rama Rao and former Minister T Harish Rao visited the Assembly, attended the nomination filing programme. CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and others also were present.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, the pro-tem speaker of the Telangana Assembly, would preside over the election of a speaker.

On election day, Akbaruddin Owaisi will read out the names of members duly nominated, along with their proposers. If there is only one nomination, the member will be declared elected. In the case of multiple nominations, the assembly will proceed to elect the speaker by ballot. After the speaker’s election, the office of the pro-tem speaker ceases to exist.
