HYDERABAD: Siddipet MLA and BRS leader T Harish Rao has penned an open letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, urging him to fulfill the Congress party's promise of a Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver made during the 2023 Assembly elections.

"The Congress pledged to implement a Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver immediately upon assuming power on December 9, 2023. However, despite four months passing since your government took office, not a single farmer's loan has been waived," Harish Rao said in his letter.

The former finance minister Rao highlighted the mounting pressure faced by farmers from banks, with notices being issued to them to repay their loans. "Hundreds of farmers in erstwhile Warangal and Medak districts are facing distress as interest accumulates on their loans, affecting their financial stability," he elaborated.

Harish Rao emphasised the ease with which loans were waived twice under the BRS regime, contrasting it with the current situation where farmers were left in limbo due to lack of clarity and action from the Congress Government. "The absence of guidance from the Government has plunged the state into chaos, with farmers bearing the brunt of uncertainty," he lamented.

Demanding immediate action from the Congress Government, Harish Rao urged for the fulfillment of all promises made to the farming community, including bonus of Rs 500 per quintal on MSP prices, Rs 15,000 Rythu Bharosa, irrigation water, and uninterrupted power supply.
