HYDERABAD: A High Court division bench on Monday while admitting a lunch motion petition by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC), posted it for hearing on Tuesday. The TSPSC appealed against the verdict of the single judge scrapping the Group 1 examinations conducted by it.

With the High Court ordering the re-examination of Group 1 prelims on Saturday, the commission concerned about the future of the candidates approached the court, to explain the agony of the candidates that attended the examination.

The High Court delivered the judgment in response to a PIL filed by NSUI leader Venkat Balmoori that the TSPSC failed to conduct the examinations as per the norms.

The Telangana Government on April 26, 2022, declared that it would conduct Group 1 for 503 posts and 3,80,202 candidates appleade for the posts. On October 16, 2022, around 2,85,916 candidates took the examination. Out of that 25,000 were selected for the mains and the examinations were scheduled for June 2023, but were canceled due to alleged leakage of the question papers. On June 11, 2023, the TSPSC conducted the preliminary exam again and 2,33,506 candidates took the examination.
