BOATH: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy has reiterated his commitment for adopting Adilabad and turning it into a model district for the State after the Congress comes to power in the State.

“Adivasis and Lambadas are two eyes of the Congress. The party leadership has given seats in 12 Assembly constituencies for them in the upcoming elections,” he said. Revanth Reddy participated in the ‘Vijayabheri Sabha’ held at Boath in Adilabad district on Wednesday.

Addressing a public gathering, the TPCC president said, “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) who is making tall claims of upgrading Thandas into Gram Panchayats in Adilabad district has utterly failed in constructing the Gram Panchayat buildings. Several Gram Sarpanches are committing suicide due to delay in payment of bills for them.”

Taking a jibe at KCR for blaming the Congress for backwardness in Telangana, Revanth Reddy said, “Even after 10 years of Telangana’s inception and the BRS rule, farmers' suicides, lack of employment for youth and migration to other States is still continuing in the State. There is no significant progress in Adilabad and Mahabubnagar districts during the BRS rule, which even stood top of the list of backward areas in the United Andhra Pradesh.”

Referring to the raw deal meted out to Boath, Revanth Reddy said that the aspirations of people in the State were not fulfilled in the last 10 years of the BRS rule. People of Boath were still reeling under drinking water crisis due to inordinate delay in the completion of the Gunti project and water supply for them under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme, lack of roads and reopening of schools closed in Thandas and distribution of podu lands, he said.

Highlighting the measures taken by the Congress to address the drinking water needs of the region, Revanth Reddy said that former Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) mooted Pranahita-Chevella project to provide water for 1.62 lakh acres in Adilabad at an estimated cost of Rs 35,000 crore. Work in this regard was begun at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. However, after the BRS came to power, it changed the course of the project and renamed it as Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, he said.

Revanth Reddy also alleged that KCR’s corruption was the major reason for the sinking of Medigadda barrage and the poor construction resulted in the waste of crores of rupees of public money.

“KCR is the reason for the delay in drinking water supply for Boath and Adilabad. The BRS has won twice in the constituency and has done nothing for the welfare of the people. I will take the responsibility of beginning the works of the Gunti project, degree college and revenue division for Boath by December 31, if the Congress party is blessed with power in the State,” the TPCC president said.
