HALIYA: Holding the past Congress Governments and their leaders responsible for the underdevelopment of Nagarjunasagar Assembly constituency, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) said that Kunduru Jana Reddy who represented the constituency could not even get a Government degree college for the area.

“As an R&B Minister, he brought few roads but nothing else. But now he wants to be a Chief Minister if the Congress party wins the elections,” KCR said addressing Praja Ashirvada Sabha at Haliya (Nagarjuna Sagar constituency) on Tuesday. He added that the incumbent BRS MLA Nomula Bhagath did yeomen service to the constituency in a very short time.

Asking people to discuss and then decide before they vote in the ensuing elections, KCR said that the BRS was born to protect the interests of the people of Telangana. “But Congress ruled this region for 50 years. This region used to be dry and the Government used to send green fodder to save the cattle. After the formation of the State, we adopted a plan and followed it to resurrect Telangana. Power is one sector I concentrated along with irrigation,” the CM said.

Shortly after BRS took over the reins in 2014 in the Assembly, Jana Reddy challenged me that he would wear a pink scarf and join the BRS if the Government could give 24-hour free power, KCR said. “I have kept my word by giving round-the-clock power much before the time frame I set, but Jana Reddy didn’t keep his word. He did not join the BRS,” KCR said.

He pointed out that the senior Congress leader contested against Nomula Bhagath, son of Nomula Narsimhaiah, and lost. “But first time MLA Bhagat got you a degree college, expanded the local hospital, saw to it that two lifts were started, of which one will be expanded to irrigate 50,000 acres,” the CM said.

Stressing the need for round-the-clock power and timely financial inputs for successful agriculture, KCR said that the BRS Government scrapped water cess and stabilised agriculture through the Rytu Bandhu scheme.

“Now Revanth Reddy says that three hours of power is sufficient and a 10 hp pump is needed to irrigate one acre in one hour. Who is going to purchase those big pumps for you? Telangana's farmers use only 3 to 5 hp pumps for agriculture,” the BRS chief said
