NEW DELHI: Proving the week-long speculation right, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday appointed Union Tourism Minister Gangapuram Kishan Reddy as the President of the party’s Telangana unit. The announcement was made through a press release issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh.

The change of guard in Telangana comes as a part of BJP central leadership’s exercise to galvanise its units in poll-bound States. Kishan Reddy, one of the senior most leaders of the BJP in Telangana, replaced Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Karimnagar MP. As reports claimed, Bandi Sanjay has already tendered his resignation as the State BJP chief under the directions of the party Central leadership. The appointment of Kishan Reddy comes into immediate effect, the BJP press release said.

In another key appointment, which was also widely in speculation in the last few days, the BJP deployed Huzurabad MLA Etela Rajender as the Chairman of the Election Management Committee of the party in Telangana. The change of guard clearly signals the BJP’s intent to gear up the party rank and file for the crucial Assembly elections in Telangana, due in a few months.
