WARANGAL: Tension prevailed at the Warangal Municipal Corporation office when Congress activists blocked its approach road demanding speedy execution of works in the flood-affected areas of the city on Monday.

While the police dispersed the agitating Congress workers by arresting some of them, a minor scuffle ensued between the two who resisted the arrests. The Congress workers were also was demanding compensation to flood victims, repair of damaged structures and 2BHK houses for all the eligible beneficiaries.

As a precautionary measure police kept former Minister Konda Surekha, former MLC Konda Murali and Warangal district Congress president Yerrabelli Swarna under house arrest.

Meanwhile, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief A Revanth Reddy condemned the house arrest of senior leaders of the party and the cadre in Hyderabad.

In a statement, he demanded the immediate release of all the party workers and urged the Warangal municipal authorities to invite Congress leaders for talks. “We will not tolerate oppression to silence the Congress leaders who are fighting on behalf of the flood-affected civilians,” Revanth Reddy said.
