HYDERABAD: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Saturday issued orders allocating available water at Nagarjuna Sagar Dam between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

As per the order, Telangana would receive 10 TMC, and Andhra Pradesh would get 5 TMC of water to meet immediate drinking water requirements in those States. A three-member KRMB committee took the decision after consulting the respective Engineers In Chief (ENC) of the irrigation department of both the states.

The KRMB directed the release of 8.5 TMC to Telangana, out of the overall allocation, for water requirements till September and 4.2 TMC for AP to meet the drinking water needs of the State till the end of July.

The Board also ratified the 5.28 TMC of water utilised by Telangana in June and July 2023. The Board, however, directed the upper riparian State of Telangana to release water downstream only through the production of Hydel electricity.

Inflows continue

Meanwhile, heavy inflows of 83,945 cusecs of water were reported in Alamatti Dam in Karnataka, followed by Narayanpur with 637 cusecs raising hopes of farmers in Telangana. Priayadarshini Jurala in Telangana received 30,000 cusecs at 6 pm on Saturday out of which 750 cusecs were released to Nettempadu.

The water level at Srisailam stood at 808.6 feet but there were no inflows into the reservoir from projects above. Similarly, Pulichintala received 8,206 cusecs of water from catchment areas and the Prakasam Barrage received 17,377 cusecs of water.

Irrigation authorities lifted 14 gates of the Prakasam Barrage and released 10,290 cusecs water into the sea. Both the right and left canals were receiving 5,416 cusecs.

On the other hand, projects on the Godavari River were also receiving heavy inflows with incessant rains dumping huge quantities of water in the catchment areas. At Medigadda of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation (KLIP), 60 gates were lifted and water was released downstream on Saturday. With Godavari joining its tributary Pranahitha, the gates of Parvathi Barrage at Sundilla were also partially opened to release the heavy flow of flood waters.

The water level at Sripada Yellampalli was 480.18 feet and inflows were 10,887 Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) was receiving a massive flood of 60,395 cusecs.
