KHAMMAM: Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) has inaugurated a cable bridge over Lakaram pond in Khammam on Saturday. The bridge was constructed at Rs 11.75 crore. The minister launched a musical fountain, LED lighting, and a natural estate built at Rs 2 crore. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar also participated in the event.

Addressing the gathering, KTR said he was happy to see the launch of the Rs 100-crore development programmes on a single day in Khammam. "The Lakaram pond, which used to be a dirty pile, has been wonderfully developed. We have built a cable bridge over the Lakaram pond on which Every 2,000 people come there every day and have fun," he said adding that the development that'staking place in Khammam Corporation was not happening in any other corporation.

He said that Minister Ajay Kumar aimed at making Khammam a number one city. He remarked that some people were making baseless allegations out of jealousy, as they could not see development.

In a trenchant attack on the BJP, KTR said that India's economic situation was similar to that of China in 1987, which surged ahead to a 16-trillion-dollar economy in the last 35 years, and said India was still lagging at a small 3-trillion-dollar economy.

He recalled China's declaration, which had said that it would compete with the countries that worked for the welfare of the poor, the country's progress, prosperity; and its competition was with the developed countries. He said that the people of India were moving backwards with debates on castes, religion, and other trivial issues. No god had taught us to fight in the name of religion, he quipped.
