HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) exhorted party activists to condemn the Congress party leaders' distressing notion about power supply to farmers.

Recalling statements of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s (TPCC) President A Revanth Reddy and other leaders of the party that three hours of power was sufficient for 95 percent of farmers and that free power supply was not needed, he said that there was a need for a debate in all villages and homes.

In a teleconference with the party activists on Saturday, KTR asked them to hold farmers' meetings for ten days starting from July 17, 2023. The conclaves were to be held at Rythu Vedikas across the State and each of the meetings should be attended by at least 1,000 farmers, KTR directed the activists. He asked BRS MLAs to take the onus of organising these meetings.

Resolutions must be passed condemning the statements and demanding Congress to tender an apology to farmers in the State, KTR said. He pointed out that people must be told that supporting Congress would lead to the cancellation of free power. He wanted the cadre to explain the distress experienced by farmers during the Congress rule to farmers.

Referring to the comments made by N Chandrababu in 2001 that agriculture was a waste, KTR said that Revanth Reddy, the current president of TPCC, who was a disciple of Chandrababu, also made anti-farmers statements.

KTR said that the BRS government ushered in several welfare measures to better the lives of 70 lakh farmers and strived to develop the agriculture sector. He said that the Congress party on the other hand made unacceptable comments about free power.
