HYDERABAD: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has alleged that the aim of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is only ensure that KT Rama Rao (KTR) is made the next Chief Minister and Kavitha is saved from going to jail.

Addressing a conference of intellectuals at Imperial Gardens on Tuesday, Shah said, "In the coming days, the people of Telangana have to decide who will rule the state for the next five years: BJP, Congress or BRS.

"To help you decide, I want to take you back 10 years ago. There was corruption when the Congress ruled the country. It was only after Modi came to power, India has come on top in many sectors. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given youth a platform as the country ranks fourth globally in startups ecosystem in the world."

Speaking about the BRS, Shah said, "There is no aim for the BRS except for making KTR as the next Chief Minister and saving Kavitha from going to jail (in the Delhi Liquor Scam). They only work for their family's betterment. I request the intellectuals present here to decide if they want to vote for the BRS or for the BJP which has no history of corruption in the last 10 years."

Alleging that the BJP spent money for Telangana while KCR spent only on corruption, the Union Home Minister said, "They did corruption in Kaleshwaram project. They didn't complete the Palamuru Lift Irrigation project. PM Modi had given Rs 9 lakh crore for Telangana through various projects. A small State like Telangana now has a debt of Rs 7.5 lakh crore. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) even failed to provide employment in hospitals, schools and universities."

Announcing that the BJP would celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day across Telangana if they come to power, Shah said, "I am here to warn the people of Telangana. What was worse than the rule of Nizam? September 17 is Hyderabad Liberation Day. When KCR came to power, he said that the day will be celebrated but didn't stick to his promise because he wanted the MIM's support. I promise that if BJP comes to power, Hyderabad Liberation Day will be celebrated in every village and district."

Reiterating what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said a few days ago about KCR joining the NDA Government, Shah said, "KCR always sends an affa (rumour) that I will join the NDA. But we will never join hands with KCR as he is friends with the Majlis (AIMIM)."

Comparing the BRS and the BJP, Shah concluded, "They are doing vote bank politics, we are doing development. They talk of entitlement, we talk of empowerment. They work for their family, we work for Telangana and the nation."
