Telangana CM reviews progress on Metro Phase II, finalising six new metro corridors.
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy reviewed the progress of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II with senior officials of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department.
During the meeting, Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Managing Director NVS Reddy made a detailed presentation regarding the proposed metro alignments, station locations, and other features of the second phase.
MD NVS Reddy informed the Chief Minister that DPRs for all proposed metro corridors are in the final stages, awaiting the traffic study results from the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area. The DPRs will be submitted for Government of India approval after ensuring alignment with CMP requirements. The Airport Metro alignment has been updated to include Aramghar and the new High Court location on NH-44 before reaching Shamshabad Airport, as decided in an earlier meeting.
The Chief Minister approved the following six new metro corridors under Phase II:
- Corridor IV: Nagole - RGIA (Airport Corridor) – 36.6 km
- Corridor V: Raidurg - Kokapet Neopolis – 11.6 km
- Corridor VI: MGBS - Chandrayangutta (Old City Corridor) – 7.5 km
- Corridor VII: Miyapur - Patancheru – 13.4 km
- Corridor VIII: LB Nagar - Hayat Nagar – 7.1 km
- Corridor IX: RGIA - Fourth City (Skill University) – 40 km
The total length for Phase II is approximately 116.2 km.
Corridor IV (Airport Corridor) will run from Nagole to Shamshabad Airport, covering areas such as LB Nagar, Chandrayangutta, and Mailardevpally. The 36.6 km corridor includes 24 stations, with 35 km being elevated and 1.6 km underground near the Airport.
Corridor V will extend the Blue Line from Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis, covering a length of 11.6 km with 8 elevated stations. This extension will pass through Biodiversity Junction, Khajaguda Road, and Financial District.
Corridor VI (Old City Corridor) will be an extension of the Green Line from MGBS to Chandrayangutta, spanning 7.5 km. The route will cover key junctions such as Darulshifa, Shalibanda, and Falaknuma. While the corridor passes near historical sites like Salarjung Museum and Charminar, station names will retain these iconic names. Around 1,100 properties are expected to be impacted by the widening of roads and metro alignment, with steps being taken to safeguard religious and heritage structures through careful planning.
Corridor VII will extend the Red Line from Miyapur to Patancheru along the Mumbai Highway, with a 13.4 km route featuring 10 elevated stations.
Corridor VIII will extend the Red Line from LB Nagar to Hayat Nagar along the Vijayawada Highway, spanning 7.1 km with 6 stations.
Corridor IX (Fourth City Corridor) will extend from Shamshabad Airport to the Skill University in the Fourth City area, covering 40 km. This corridor will include an underground portion near the airport, elevated sections, and an at-grade segment integrated with a new 300 ft greenfield road. This line aims to enhance connectivity between the airport and emerging development zones.
The DPRs for these corridors are expected to be finalised soon and forwarded for State and Central government approvals. The Phase II project, including the Fourth City Corridor, is estimated to cost Rs 32,237 crore, with Rs 8,000 crore allocated specifically for the Fourth City link. This expansion will be implemented as a joint venture between the Government of Telangana and the Government of India.
The review meeting was attended by Principal Secretary MA&UD M. Dana Kishore, CM's Special Secretary B Ajit Reddy, HMDA Commissioner Sarfraz Ahmad, GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata, and other senior officials.
